It unpicks the three key elements in tactical risk management, namely, intent, capability and circumstances, and provides examples of how these interact. This chapter looks at the tools the New Zealand Police/Ngā Pirihimana o Aotearoa have provided officers to assist them in managing risk, while also discussing the perception of risk that officers develop that can and does impact their level of anxiety and how they respond.
