The History of Prison Theatre

  • Adelle Hulsmeier

摘要

This chapter explores the history of theatre in prisons and the scope and expanse of applied work that uses the tools of theatre to engage the incarcerated. Prison theatre represents a variety of arts-based programmes with criminal offenders and ‘a repeated theme in the discourse on theatre practice in prisons can be summarised as theatre and drama projects [that] have a positive effect on those incarcerated and may contribute towards rehabilitation’.
