The History of Shakespeare and Therapy

This chapter considers specific projects and/or performances that use Shakespeare’s plays in therapeutic spaces. The examples demonstrate the reach of the work and the medical/therapeutic considerations that underpin Shakespeare’s inclusion within theatrical programmes for therapeutic benefits. This is a collection of work that attempts to engage a community in the therapeutic space through the purposes of applied theatre supported by the plays of Shakespeare.
