Thiamethoxam stands as a significant addition to the second generation of neonicotinoids, distinguished by its impressive systemic properties. It is a versatile compound suitable for foliar, granular, and seed treatments, and offers a promising solution for safeguarding crops. As a member of the thiannicotinyls subclass, thiamethoxam exhibits broad-spectrum insecticidal properties, effectively controlling a variety of economically significant pests. Nonetheless, the efficacy of thiamethoxam in pest management is indisputable; we cannot disregard the potential environmental ramifications associated with its unique characteristics. The extent of this impact depends on the interplay of various environmental conditions and agricultural practices. Given these considerations, the adoption of bioremediation emerges as a sustainable, cost-effective, and ecologically friendly alternative for mitigating the environmental persistence of neonicotinoids, including thiamethoxam. Sufficient research has unveiled promising results that leverage plants and microorganisms as crucial components in addressing this challenge, with the primary aim of diminishing thiamethoxam’s environmental presence in agricultural soils. Within this context, our chapter endeavors to explore the profound impact of thiamethoxam on agroecosystems, with a specific emphasis on the application of biological strategies to ameliorate these effects. By addressing it, we contribute not only to the reduction of environmental damage but also to the enhancement of overall soil agronomic quality. The implications presented in this chapter bear significant relevance to sustainable agricultural practices and the responsible use of neonicotinoid insecticides.
