Semantic Web: Or AI Revisited

The main reason that the initial hype around artificial intelligence (AI) was lost was the bottleneck around knowledge acquisition. It was simply too difficult and expensive to transfer knowledge from experts to intelligent applications. Semantic Web helped solve the bottleneck and scaling Web search across the ever-increasing number of documents. We briefly introduce the main building blocks of the Semantic Web and the first systems that allowed the representation of machine-understandable knowledge on the Web.
