摘要

The World Wide Web (WWW) is perhaps the most important technology that enabled us to target the knowledge acquisition bottleneck. In this chapter, we cover the most important building blocks of the WWW – Uniform Resource Identifiers (URIs) for resource identification, Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) and Representational State Transfer (REST) for information exchange, and Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) and Extensible Markup Language (XML) as data presentation and representation formats. These fundamental technologies also provide a basis for the Semantic Web, which in return was crucial for the development of knowledge graphs.
