Sensor Data from Wearable Technologies to Inform Decision-Making to Individualize Training Procedures of Athletes

To attain competitive advantage, athletes need to make decisions to optimize their training procedures. Due to inter- and intra-individual variability in response to different training stimuli, transferability of training procedures between athletes or applying the same training stimuli at different time points to the same atletes is impaired. In order to make the right decision during training procedures for the individual, athletes and their coaches might rely on data which can be obtained by wearable technologies. Yet, often it seems that it is unclear on how to use data from wearable technologies to inform training procedures. In this book, the aim is to give an outline on if and how data from wearable technologies can be used to derive decisions when individualizing training procedures. The topics covered in this book include aspects of endurance and strength training, sleep procedures, reducing the likelihood of running-related injuries, individualizing training according to the menstrual cycle and special aspects related to soccer.
