Bioactive Compounds and Biological Activities of Madonna Lily (Lilium candidum L.)

The chemical contents and pharmacological effects of the Lilium genus are credited with making its plants useful in both culinary and medicinal contexts. According to analyses of chemical compounds, the Lilium genus is rich in steroidal saponins, flavonoids, alkaloids, and polysaccharides. Anti-tumor, hypoglycemia, antibacterial, antioxidant, anti-depressant, and anti-inflammatory are only some of the pharmacological actions of Lilium. This chapter provides a concise overview of the chemical makeup and pharmacological actions of Lilium.
