Bioactive Compounds and Biological Activities of the Genus Pancratium
摘要
The genus Pancratium belongs to the Amaryllidaceae family and comprises 24 species worldwide. This genus has gained recognition for its potential therapeutic applications. It is known for containing a diverse array of alkaloids that possess pharmaceutical properties. Pancratium species served as a rich source of bioactive compounds including lycorine and galantamine with medicinal importance. These compounds are potent acetylcholinesterase inhibitors used in the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease. Extracts derived from various parts of Pancratium such as bulbs, leaves, and flowers, as well as isolated compounds, have demonstrated a wide range of valuable therapeutic attributes. This review provides an overview of the current status of the Pancratium genus including its distribution and the chemical constituents derived from different plant parts. The bioactive compounds identified in Pancratium species exhibit various significant biological activities. The review emphasizes the potential of Pancratium as a valuable source of natural products with multiple medicinal properties.
