Advances in Human Body Modelling to Improve the Treatment of Obesity and Overweight

The increasing prevalence of obesity and overweight has become a major public health concern, contributing to a range of chronic diseases and diminishing quality of life. The COVID-19 pandemic has further highlighted the risks associated with obesity. In response, researchers are exploring innovative solutions to provide personalized treatments for obesity and overweight. This paper focuses on two main approaches: improving treatment adherence through the use of 3D body modeling and virtual reality, and boosting patient motivation through the use of consumer devices to reconstruct body shapes at home. The research presents the development of an accurate 3D capturing method of the human body, a 4D model for analysis of body shape changes, and a virtual reality system to enhance engagement. It also describes the use of consumer devices to visualize the future evolution of body shape models and reduce the number of in-person visits, thereby addressing mobility concerns during pandemic situations. The aim of this research is to bring treatment closer to patients and improve outcomes in the treatment of obesity and overweight.
