Superior Sulcus (Pancoast) Tumors

Superior sulcus, or Pancoast, tumors are locally aggressive bronchogenic carcinomas uniquely positioned in the apex of the chest. They account for only a small percentage of lung cancers, but given their anatomic location and proclivity to invade vital structures in the thoracic inlet, these cancers are particularly challenging to treat. Unique to lung cancer, these tumors often present with a variety of symptoms from tumor invasion. Successful treatment requires a multidisciplinary team approach.
