Study of Spinal Deformity by Optical Formetric Method

Spinal deformity is one of the causes affecting the normal development of each individual, causing many circulatory diseases, bad posture, and loss of confidence in normal life. Especially the passive working posture of modern life due to the increasing trend of using computers has made abnormal spinal symptoms more and more serious, affecting not only individual health but even the physical development of the youth generation. Therefore, early detection and routine screening of spinal deformities are essential. In the investigation of suitable methods for screening the spine status, the optical for0metric method through experimental measurement on the DIERS FORMETRIC 4D III system has been used to assess scoliosis. Experimental results on the DIERS system - a new non-invasive and non-ionizing radiation method suitable for regular scoliosis screening for all ages - show that for the group of Vietnamese population under 30 years old (128 samples) 3 parameters are different from the average value: Coronal Imbalance VP-DM, Pelvic Obliquity, Apical Deviation VP-DM; for the group over 50 years old (37 samples) there are 4 different parameters: Coronal Imbalance VP-DM, Pelvic Obliquity, Apical Deviation VP-DM, Pelvic Torsion DL-DR. The results of the mentioned study showed that the DIERS method could be used for mass routine spinal screening, not only for scoliosis but even for kyphosis, lordosis, and pelvic abnormalities. Mentioned parameters can help people monitor and predict early and comprehensively spinal diseases and lifestyle factors affecting general health.
