Introduction

Materials form the basis of human civilization. With the advance of computational algorithms, computational power, and cloud-based services, materials innovation is accelerating at a pace never witnessed by humankind. In this chapter, we briefly introduce the materials discovery approaches using AI and ML that has enabled some breakthrough in our understanding of materials. We list some publicly available databases on materials and some of the applications where AI and ML has been used to design and discover novel materials. The chapter concludes with a brief outline of the book.
