Results: Components of Intercultural Competence

  • Gila A. Schauer

摘要

In this chapter, I analyse and discuss the answers that the language teachers gave in questions 2 and 3 of the survey about intercultural competence and pragmatics; these two questions focus on the components of intercultural competence. Question 2 is a multiple-choice question featuring 24 potential components of intercultural competence ranging from ability to produce situationally appropriate language to tolerance, and thus presented a variety of options—representing abilities, knowledge, skills and attitudes or characteristics—from which the teachers could choose. Question 3 is a yes/no question (that also included a don’t know option) and concentrates on the linguistic components of intercultural competence. It included 12 items ranging from acronyms and abbreviations to swear words and taboo language.
