“Stupidity” in a Pandemic World

Dealing with stupidity is not easy, since talking about it implies that one puts oneself above it, which in itself is a sure sign of it. As Saul Bellow noted the willingness to answer to all and to every question is another certain indicator of being stupid. What exactly is stupidity? Everybody knows the word, but how could one define the meaning? What first comes to our mind will probably be “intelligence” and the hope that stupidity could be defined as the opposite of it. But what exactly is intelligence? So, what are the constituting factors of this condition? The chapter deals with these questions and tries to define "pillars of stupidity". One such pillar of stupidity is the unwillingness to question long held and beloved convictions or to accept the fact that the complexity of our world has long ago surpassed our imagination and our understanding. Searching for explanations and understandable connections and causalities for everything is an excessive demand for everybody. This became especially evident in the Corona-pandemic. The only thing everyone can do is stand up against stupidity wherever it is possible, speak up against harmful tendencies and developments, and always consider stupidity as an indestructible part of the human condition.
