What Makes a Good Model?

  • William M. Briggs

摘要

We investigate what makes a good model. Simple measures like unconditional predictive ability on past observations, or parameter estimation fail. Ideally the truth or high probability of model constituents, based on accepted assumptions, along with predictive ability, are what make a model good. The best model is one in which the complete cause of the observable is specified.
