Effects of Roadside Parking of Container Truck on Traffic Performance in Urban Arterial Roads

The research focuses on analyzing the effects of roadside Parking of container trucks on traffic performance in motorcycle dominated traffic flow. By analyzing the real-world data collected in an arterial in Binh Duong province of Vietnam, the research evaluates the effect of roadside parking on traffic performance in terms of travel time, traffic delay, capacity reduction, etc. To investigate the traffic performance under different scenarios, a microscopic simulation model is proposed in this research. The simulation model for a 500 m road segment shows that, when the parking area increases, the capacity of the road segment reduces significantly. If the area of a lane is occupied by 20% for roadside parking, that lane will almost no longer play a role in increasing traffic capacity of the road. The paper provides a deep insight into the role of container trucks and its roadside parking in the performance of the traffic flow.
