Eco-metabolomic Studies of Medicinal Plants and Herbal Medicine

Ecometabolomics is becoming recognized as a valuable approach in ecological research, owing to recent advancements in technology, such as HNMR spectrometers, and bioinformatic progress. These improvements have facilitated the inclusive analysis of the metabolome, encompassing the entirety of metabolites, and their dynamic alterations in response to ecological perturbations. This quickly evolving technological platform offers a thorough qualitative and quantitative analysis of a particular metabolite set or the entire metabolite composition of a part. As a result of this technology, drugs are being discovered from natural plant resources, medicinal plant quality is being controlled, and new lead compounds are being discovered in recent years. From the perspective of small-molecule metabolism, metabolomics can be a terrific way to understand and enhance herbal remedies. By using a metabolic approach, development of novel pharmaceuticals, and encouraging the research. The scientific obstacles surrounding herbal remedies can be surmounted. In this chapter, we discussed the popular analytical methods used in metabolomic investigation and highlighted the relevance of eco-metabolomics in addressing several metabolites.
