Complying with HIPAA and HITECH

  • Susan Lincke

摘要

The Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 1996 was a bipartisan bill implemented as part of United States law. HIPAA addressed group health insurance, tax/financial aspects, transaction standardization and security. Its Title II regulated the protection of personal health information, in addition to initiating standardization to achieve medical transaction uniformity. Later in 2009, the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act fixed implementation problems with HIPAA. Important security related sections of these U.S. and related laws include the HIPAA Privacy rule and Security rule, the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act, and more.
