Pudendal neuropathy is a common, often unrecognised, pelvic floor pathology which can result in a both motor and sensory neurological dysfunction; this, in turn, can result in clinical symptoms affecting continence, sexual function and pain. Early recognition of the condition can ameliorate muscle atrophy and progression of symptoms. Electrodiagnostic testing of the full length of the nerve can identify the presence of neuropathy and the severity, allowing for appropriate clinical intervention. A comprehensive knowledge of the neuroanatomy of the lumbo-sacral plexus, physiological function, and clinical presentation patterns is essential in identifying the pathologies associated with pelvic floor and sphincter neuropathy. An understanding of the available Electrodiagnostic Testing techniques (EDX) to assess the presence and nature of the neuropathy is a cardinal element to comprehend for the treating clinician, as it aids in accurate diagnosis and providing optimal treatments for this physically and psychologically distressing condition. New treatment protocols have proven to be beneficial in treating pelvic floor neuropathies. Early detection is critical, as it prevents sphincter atrophy, which can exacerbated and prolong the clinical symptoms associated with pudendal neuropathy.
