Effort of Beijing in Improving Air Quality

  • Yuanlong Wang

摘要

After decades of development, China’s GDP has ranked second in the world, second only to the United States. As a key development area, Beijing, the capital, has invested a lot of resources to promote urban construction. However, China’s extensive economic development model has brought about increasingly serious environmental issues, especially the deterioration of air quality. In order to deal with these problems, Beijing has taken a series of Countermeasures in this century, and has successfully reduced pollution and improved urban air quality. This paper investigates the air control measures in Beijing, and analyzes the actual effects of these measures through actual data. The research shows that the measures taken by Beijing, such as source control, traffic control and energy improvement, have obvious effects on improving air quality. The discharge and annual average concentration of all major pollutants have decreased significantly. The case of Beijing thus could be taken as a reference for cities and countries that are facing similar problems in poor air quality.
