Prediction of Mechanical Properties and Solid Production of Granite Reservoirs Based on Logging Data

Solid production problems were observed in granite reservoirs during test production and this issue has been of concern to oil and gas production engineers. However, the current solid production prediction method is not applicable to the granite reservoirs. In this study, we analyzed the mechanical properties of granite reservoirs using reservoir logging data, identified their vulnerable and fragile zones, rapidly evaluated and qualitatively identified their solid production potential, and established new and simple criteria to predict the solid production of granite reservoirs. A comprehensive comparison of four prediction methods and three wells from the YL area illustrates the accuracy of the prediction results. The cutoff values of the parameters of the acoustic time difference method, B index method, Schlumberger index method, and combined modulus method, which are applicable to the prediction of solid production in granite reservoirs, are summarized as Ac > 100 μs/ft, B < 5 × 104 MPa, SB < 42 × 107 MPa2, and Ec < 2.7 × 104 MPa, respectively. This study provides guidance value for the test and development of granite reservoirs.
