Palaeoenvironmental Information Recorded from the Profile of Hupocun in the Northern Piedmont of Central Shandong of China

Loess deposits are dust deposits formed by dust weather in geological period. Its grain size characteristics recorded the palaeo-atmospheric circulation pattern and palaeo-environmental evolution information in the process of dust transport (Kong et al., in Acta Geogr Sin 76:1163–1176, 2021, Xu et al., in Acta Geogr Sinica 69(11):1707–1717, 2014, Shuzhen, in J Geomech 13:315–321, 2007). Loess deposits of varying thickness are widely developed in the intermountain valley and piedmont areas of the central Shandong Mountains (Xu et al., Acta Geogr Sinica 69(11):1707–1717, 2014). It has carried out a systematic field survey on the loess profile in Pingyin Hupo village, Jinan, Shandong province. The grain size and magnetic susceptibility of Hupo village loess profile are studied and analyzed. The results are as follows. Firstly, according to the grain size measurement data and grain size parameter variation characteristics, the Sahu discriminant formula is used to discriminate the sedimentary environment. It can be seen that the loess deposits in Hupo village section are mainly eolian deposits. Secondly, the environment-sensitive grain sizes extracted by the size-standard deviation method were 17.378–52.481 µm and 79.433–239.833 µm, respectively. Thirdly, the median particle size of 2–63 µm, sensitive particle size of 20–26.303 µm and susceptibility were selected to restore the paleoenvironment. It has experienced 3 periods of relatively warm and wet climate and 3 periods of relatively cold and dry climate. This section records the historical process of paleoclimate environment change in this region since the last glacial period.
