Experimental Investigation on Fresh Air Purification by Water Mist and Negative Ions

Conventional air purifiers don't sort particulate matter, leaving filters to quickly fill up with dust. This will not only affect the purification efficiency, but also the use cost is higher. Based on the limitations of conventional air treatment technique, a novel air purification system was designed in this study including negative-ion generators, and a water mist purification unit for air pretreatment. In order to improve the efficiency of air purification further, multi-layer inclined plates were installed in the apparatus. With the orthogonal test design, the parameter test on the water mist purification and the particle settlement, the optimal parameters were obtained. With the optimal parameters, the air purification efficiency of this apparatus was up to 63.5%. The relationship between fresh air purification efficiency, the amount of water mist, the particulate matter settlement, wind speed and the economic analysis was investigated. Compared with filters with the same purification efficiency in the market, it has the advantages of economy and convenience, and has broad application prospects.
