Experimental Study on Removing Airborne Particles by Negative Ions

Negative air ionizers are increasingly being used to clean indoor environments of particle pollution, but there exist limitations on the purification efficiency. In order to enhance the air purification of negative ions, this study proposed a novel experiment apparatus for air purification by negative ions, and multi-layer inclined plates were installed in the apparatus to strengthen the air disturbance so as to improve the air purification efficiency further. In this study, the orthogonal test scheme was designed for the working conditions with or without inclined plates, including the parameters of negative ions and inclined plates. Through the orthogonal test experiments, the optimal combination scheme of related parameters was determined with a purification efficiency of 58.8% for PM2.5, and the horizontal distance has the most significant influence. The research results would provide theoretical guidance for the formation of a new air purification technology.
