The Influence of CSBT on the Release of Pollutants from Sediment

Sediment particles widely exist in natural waters, and have an important impact on complex physico-chemical processes. The electrochemical properties of sediment lead to significant adsorption between sediment and pollutants, thus forming contaminated sediment at the bed surface. Contaminated sediment will release accumulated pollutants into the overlying water. In this paper, the influence of contaminated sediment backfill technology (CSBT) was investigated through flume experiments. The results show that CSBT can reduce the release of sediment pollutants. This study provides a new strategy for contaminated sediment remediation, which will benefit to the management of aqueous ecosystem.
