Computer System Design

This chapter presents the design of a simple computer system that will illustrate the use of many of the VHDL modeling techniques covered in this book. The goal of this chapter is not to provide an in-depth coverage of modern computer architecture but rather to present a simple operational computer that can be implemented in VHDL to show how to use many of the modeling techniques covered thus far. This chapter begins with some architectural definitions so that consistent terminology can be used throughout the computer design example.
