Language Variation and Social Status

In the previous chapter, we continued our exploration of the study of language in its social context from the perspective of sociolinguistic variation and changesociolinguistic variation and change. We looked at the influence of registerregister and stylestyle on the linguistic choices that speakers make and the different ways that stylestyle has been defined and operationalised in studies of sociolinguistic variation.
