Language, Mode and Media
摘要
Throughout this book (and in much of linguistics), our discussion of language has mainly focused on language that is used in its spoken form in face-to-face communication. While speech is the predominant mode of language, the human language capacity is not limited to this mode. Language may be signed or written as well as spoken, it may involve long-distance as well as face-to-face interaction, and it may be interactive or passive.
