Robotic Treatment of Duodenocephalopancreatic Tumors

Pancreaticoduodenectomy is widely recognized as one of the most complex abdominal surgeries. It presents a significant challenge not only to the surgeon, who must skillfully manage the pancreas—an organ that can be difficult to manipulate due to its consistency and location—but also to the scrub and circulating nurses, who must remain completely focused to ensure that no mistakes are made and that all instruments remain clean and correctly positioned. In recent years, robotic pancreaticoduodenectomy (RPD) has emerged as a viable alternative to traditional surgical techniques, given its demonstrated feasibility and safety. As a result, nurses are required to augment their personal knowledge and experience with advanced technological skills that will be increasingly essential in the field of pancreatic surgery. The objective of this chapter is to provide a clear and practical explanation of RPD, outlining the main procedural steps, patient and operating room preparation requirements, instrument table setup, and practical advice that can be particularly beneficial to scrub nurses.
