摘要

The aim of this chapter is to briefly describe the actual role of minimally invasive bariatric surgery in the treatment of severe obesity. The perioperative care of severe obese patients is reported including venous thromboembolism (VTE) prophylaxis and patients positioning on the operating table. The instruments and tools needed to perform advanced laparoscopic bariatric procedures are reported in detail, including devices for sealing and cutting and staplers. The most common bariatric surgical interventions are described. They include sleeve gastrectomy (SG), Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB), one anastomosis gastric bypass (OAGB), and sleeve-single anastomosis gastric bypass (SADI-S). Finally, the emerging role of robotic-assisted surgery in this setting is discussed.
