Gordon Moore, an Intel co-founder, described a principle that came to be known as Moore’s Law. It said that every two years the number of transistors on a chip doubled. In doubling the number of transistors, the sizes of memory doubled as well. And in conjunction with this doubling of capacity, the performance of processors roughly doubled every two years as well.
