Selected Applications in Statistics

In this chapter, we consider some applications in statistics that use vectors and matrices. Vectors and matrices correspond naturally to the standard organization of statistical data, as discussed in Sect. 8.1.1 . They also work nicely for storing statistical data in other structures, as discussed in Sects. 8.1.2 and 8.1.3 . Statistical data may sometimes be characterized by a temporal pattern, and again, vectors and matrices are well-suited to represent such relationships.
