Intermolecular Forces and Potentials
摘要
Why it is important to know this material? The intermolecular forces causally determine the properties of matter. This chapter highlight the general models for intermolecular forces and how this interaction potentials can be leveraged to derive the property of gases and liquids. The description of the commonest intermolecular potentials is provided in the chapter. What is the key idea? The intermolecular forces and corresponding potentials can used to derive macroscopic properties of fluid phases, such as the virial coefficients for gas and osmotic pressures. What is necessary to know already? The general concepts of statistical thermodynamics are required to connect intermolecular potentials and macroscopic properties.
