Neobaroque as Transgression: The Latin American Paradigm

This chapter establishes connections between the central ideas that form the book’s conceptual axis revolving around the notions of Latin America, the Neobaroque, Textuality and Discourse, Identity, and Nomadism as Border-Boundary transgression. These concepts relate in two-way or multiple interconnections, as illustrated in the diagram in the Introduction. Here, we define and articulate the concepts of Latin America as a hybrid space of coexisting and intermingling cultures, the Neobaroque style as an exuberant and transgressive technique or artistic mode that facilitates the decentering and transformation of cultural categories in the hybrid space of the Americas, identity as an intersectional relationship of cultural and subjective elements interacting across boundaries, and discourse as the textual-symbolic body of writing/performance representing the mobile identity of the nomadic trans-self.
