Clean Energy Transition in Africa’s Mining Sector: A Rapid Reflection
摘要
Clean energy transition is crucial for reducing carbon footprint and ensuring environmental and mining sustainability. Contributing to the discourse on clean energy evolution, we focus on the continent of Africa and provide a quick reflection on the continent’s clean energy transition in the mining sector. We explore the factors that affect Africa’s transition and highlight the policies established to incentivize transition. We also discuss how the clean energy standards and initiatives affect global investment in Africa’s mining industry and the readiness of the mining industry to transition. We observe that African countries’ pledge to join the clean energy transition initiative has significant impacts on the continent’s mining industry to reduce carbon footprint and increase the production of critical minerals for clean energy technologies. Investment, legislation, infrastructure, and industry commitment are required to further drive the clean energy transition agenda on the continent.
