Order Lagomorpha

  • Sergio Ticul Álvarez-Castañeda

摘要

The order Lagomorpha includes hares, rabbits, and pikas that are characterized by two pairs of upper incisors, the second smaller, peg-shaped, located directly behind the first pair, contrasting with rodents that have only one pair of the incisors; tail indistinct or very small; ears small to large; and maxilla fenestrated or with orifices. Distribution is nearly cosmopolitan, except for Antarctica, introduced in Australia. Two families occur in North America: Ochotonidae and Leporidae.
