Postmodernist Latinx Literature in the 21st century? the Writings of Giannina Braschi

  • Cristina Garrigós

摘要

The main objective of this chapter is to explore whether postmodernism as an aesthetic, cultural, and political phenomenon is still alive in contemporary Latinx writing. To do so, I discuss the work of Puerto Rican Giannina Braschi, the author of United States of Banana (2011). It seems pertinent now to see whether the transgressive narrative tactics of Braschi can be studied as postmodern artifacts and if so, to explore the relationship of her writing with former models of narrative experimentation. Thus, it is the purpose of this article to debate the use of the term postmodernism to refer to the recent literary production of Latinx authors, specifically Braschi, who introduce an openly political and ethical position in their works while reaffirming the relevance of radical aesthetics.
