Conclusion

The Conclusion uses two famous essays by Robert Louis Stevenson as a filter through which to summarise the argument of the monograph. It outlines the complex negotiations performed by the writers discussed in previous chapters, and across disciplines and genres, in depicting and interrogating the image of the precocious child and the idea of the self as they were developed in dialogue with evolutionary theories in the nineteenth century.
