A History of Discoveries on Hearing: An Overview

This volume, unlike all past volumes in the Springer Handbook of Auditory Research (SHAR) series, recounts the history of the science of and research on hearing, rather than the most current findings in a particular area of the field of hearing. This book does use a comparative approach, as have some other SHAR volumes, with each chapter discussing significant historical discoveries in a particular animal group. This introductory chapter gives an overview of the material covered in the volume and provides a summary of each chapter in this book.
