Peaks and Valleys: A Collaborative Essay about Disability in the Bronx
摘要
This chapter shares personal stories that reflect on the geographic and cultural landscape of the Bronx. This chapter is a collaborative text composed by current and former students from Bronx Community College and Lehman College, Bronx campuses of the City University of New York (CUNY). Comprised of interlinked micro-essays, representing a diversity of voices, “Peaks and Valleys” speaks to the specifics of disability experience from an authentic Bronx perspective: navigating public transit in a wheelchair; the ways the busy, densely packed borough can exacerbate the vulnerabilities of people who grapple with psychosis; and joy and gratitude for the Bronx as a hub of disability resources, culture, and ingenuity.
