Representations of Totally Disconnected Groups

In this chapter, our goal is to develop enough of the representation theory of locally compact totally disconnected groups (or td-groups for short) to state the general definition of an automorphic representation in the next chapter. At the end of the chapter, we prove Flath’s theorem. This fundamental result implies that automorphic representations of a global field can be factored, in a suitable sense, along the places of the field.
