Introduction: History of Home Care Services

The provision of home care services to older adults has evolved over the years. A key aspect of the evolution has been the employment of interprofessional teams. Additionally, a number of legislative actions and policies have influenced the growth of home care services and the care expectations of clients and patients who are older and their families. Several theoretical perspectives have framed the creation of various home care models. Interprofessional collaboration is central to the provision of quality and seamless services in the home environment. This chapter discusses the dire need for interprofessional collaboration and the value of interprofessional teams.
