摘要

Culturally responsive teaching (CRT) is increasingly being implemented in classrooms to cater to the diverse needs of all students. This adoption illustrates that English learners (ELs) particularly benefit from educators who employ CRT strategies, enhancing their literacy skills and promoting successful academic outcomes. This chapter explores the concept of CRT and its significant impact on literacy for ELs. It begins with a definition of CRT, followed by a discussion of the essential characteristics for educators implementing CRT in their classrooms. The chapter identifies three core traits of CRT: cultural awareness, integration of culture with new learning, and fostering learning partnerships. It further investigates how these CRT practices enhance ELs’ literacy development across various learning environments. Additionally, it highlights how CRT can positively influence educators’ perceptions of ELs within the classroom setting.
