The unprecedented public health measures, particularly widespread lockdowns and social distancing, imposed significant and varied mental health burdens across diverse demographic groups. This entry critically interprets these psychosocial mechanisms, exploring how a restricted lifestyle, often experienced in isolation, contributed to a complex range of mental health challenges. The mandated social distancing during COVID-19 unveiled profound psychological distress, prompting an urgent need for effective interventions and policy development. Beyond merely identifying the problems, we discuss various individual coping mechanisms and the mental health interventions that emerged in response to these unique stressors. The strategies developed emphasized the crucial importance of readily accessible mental health services, fostering robust community engagement, promoting physical activity, and providing tailored support for vulnerable populations. Furthermore, a holistic approach to well-being and ensuring inclusivity in mental health support were identified as critical pillars for resilience. We argue that the insights gleaned from the pandemic are vital for shaping future public health strategies. Integrating comprehensive mental health support into such frameworks is essential to mitigate the ongoing adverse effects of social distancing and prepare for future crises. This proactive approach aims to foster greater resilience among individuals and within communities globally, transforming lessons learned into actionable policies for enduring well-being.

摘要

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a profound impact on global health, not only in terms of physical illness but also in its effects on mental well-being.
