Accessibility Codes and Standards
摘要
This entry outlines the role of accessibility codes in disability policy in the United States of America and the European Union (EU). These codes set the formal regulations and obligations of promoting and achieving access for all individuals. Two models of accessibility codes are detailed, the medicalized American approach and the social model in the EU. This entry concludes by highlighting the ways in which accessibility codes can fail, through challenges in identifying who and what gets left out of these approaches.
