Chronic Breathing Difficulties
摘要
The term chronic breathing difficulties refers to a broad category of illnesses, such as asthma, pulmonary fibrosis, bronchiectasis, cystic fibrosis, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, which together place a heavy burden on the global economy, society, and health. These conditions have complex interactions with disability because they affect not only respiratory function but also physical, psychological, and social well-being. This entry examines the causes, categories, and functional effects of long-term respiratory conditions, emphasizing how they affect day-to-day functioning and general quality of life. Through biomedical, social, and biopsychosocial frameworks, it investigates disability perspectives while tackling issues with diagnosis, treatment, complexity, and healthcare access disparities. It also emphasizes self-management techniques, coping strategies, and psychosocial adaptation mechanisms that help people stay resilient and autonomous. Additionally examined are advocacy campaigns, legal and policy frameworks, and the contribution of assistive technologies to enhancing independence and rehabilitation. This entry concludes by reviewing recent advancements and research trends that could improve disease monitoring and individualized care, such as wearable medical technology and artificial intelligence-powered solutions. This work emphasizes the significance of inclusive, multidisciplinary approaches for managing chronic breathing difficulties and enhancing general quality of life by combining medical, social, and policy dimensions.
