The fast-paced digital transformation following the COVID-19 pandemic has significantly changed work models, opening new possibilities for the inclusion of people with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in the workplace. Given the increase in the diagnosis of people with this condition, there is a need to redesign work environments to adapt them to the specific sensory, cognitive, and social needs of this population group. Yet, many of today’s work environments lack frameworks, tools, and methodologies that allow for effective and sustainable inclusion of adults with ASD, thus limiting their real access to the job market. The main objective of this entry is to propose a new framework for designing cyber-physical occupational environments that would enable organizations to adapt their workplaces and tasks to the capacities of people with ASD. This framework draws on emerging technologies to facilitate the creation of more inclusive work environments in the post-COVID-19 era, where digitalization has taken on a key role. The methodology proposed in this research uses variety filters and amplifiers to match job demands to the competencies-capacities of employees with ASD. Additionally, this approach relies on the use of cloud-based digital platforms and cyber-physical systems to monitor and optimize in real time both the assigned tasks and the performance of workers. This was validated through a case study adapting a conventional workplace in an industrial setting, showing how these adaptations can improve the inclusion and performance of people with ASD.
