Community Health Nursing in Prevention of Type 2 Diabetes Associated Disability
摘要
As a growing public health problem, increasing attention is directed to the prevention of Type 2 diabetes (T2D) complications and associated disability. T2D can have potentially severe consequences for those affected. While multiple factors contribute to the development and progression of T2D, major risk factors include unhealthy diet and sedentary lifestyle leading to overweight and obesity. Physical activity and diet behaviors, however, can be challenging to modify, even with the support of lifestyle interventions. Moreover, those at the most risk of adverse T2D consequences may also be less likely to participate in lifestyle modification interventions. Community health nurses can be crucial in reaching this group and offer support for lifestyle changes, especially for diet and physical activity behaviors, to prevent T2D complications and associated disability. This entry discusses how community health nurses may contribute to preventing T2D complications and associated disability by transferring learning from lifestyle interventions into their clinical practice. Challenges and potential solutions on how learning from experimental lifestyle interventions in T2D prevention may be transferred to Community Health Nursing practice are discussed.
