Menopause and Intellectual Disabilities
摘要
This entry provides a critical exploration of the menopausal experiences of women with intellectual disabilities, addressing the physiological, cognitive, and emotional challenges associated with this life stage. Through a synthesis of existing literature, it examines the compounded barriers these women face, including sociocultural stigmatization, systemic inequities, and limited access to appropriate healthcare. Particular attention is given to the role of caregivers, healthcare professionals, and policy frameworks in mitigating these disparities. This entry critiques prevailing disablist attitudes and highlights the consequences of inadequate training for healthcare providers, which often result in unmet healthcare needs and diminished quality of life for menopausal women with intellectual disabilities. By integrating evidence-based recommendations with the lived experiences of this marginalized group, the entry advocates for an intersectional and rights-based approach to healthcare delivery. This approach emphasizes tailored interventions, caregiver education, and inclusive health policies to promote equitable care and enhance the well-being of women with intellectual disabilities during menopause.
